In 2013, there were 8.2 million cases of anxiety in the UK and women are almost twice as likely to struggle with the condition as men.

According to NHS digital, 1 in 6 people aged 16+ report having symptoms of a common mental disorder (CMD). Generalised anxiety was the most commonly identified CMD.

A survey by the Mental Health Foundation shows that social anxiety has a significant impact on employment, income and relationship stability.

They also found that 13.3% of 16–19 year olds and 15.8% of 20–24 year olds suffer from some form of social anxiety.
